Sure, women are the only ones who get pregnant, although there is birth control, but men have to go around fitting some ill-defined image of masculinity. We can't show emotions, we can't appear weak, we can't be sensitive or we'll be accused of being "girly," we're supposed to know what to do even when we're unexperienced with the situation. If we pick up the check on a dinner date, we're being chauvinistic. If we don't pick up the check, we're not fulfilling our duties. You can just as easily insert "holding doors" for "picking up checks." And to top it off, we're cussed if we leave the damned toilet seat down!! (even though only a complete moron sits on a toilet without looking) ;-)

The essay is a textbook example of a red herring. Take what he is saying. If you boil everything down to the bare bones, he is saying that the president cannot do wrong because we are spoiled. We are spoiled because we have good things, and the majority of his essay is detailing what these good things are.
Now where in his argument did he mention anything about where our country is headed and why the people in the poll are upset? Well, he did mention that the people are upset because the news media tells them to be upset, again dodging issues. I think this essay needs to be used to line bird cages, not the newspapers.

I don't really give a crap. I don't lie here, and that's all that's important to me. Of course, I make it a point to take everything I read here with a grain of salt. I feel sorry for people who are so dissatisfied with themselves that they feel a need to lie.

Interconnectedness is a big part of Native American spirituality. It's the idea that nothing exists in isolation--everything is related and reliant upon everything else.
I can't remember where I read this, but I recall reading that as we began to understand biological creatures, we realized that we can be broken down into cells, cells are part of tissues, tissues make up organs, organs make up organ systems, organs systems make up organisms. The we learn that individuals make up communities, communities make up societies, societies make up countries, countries make up nations, etc.
Everything follows this pattern of parts working together as a whole. Soon we'll learn that, like cells, our planet is part of a larger organism. Our planet is part of a solar system. Our solar system is part of a galaxy. Our galaxy is part of a universe. Where does it end? The more we study, the larger the universal organism becomes.
